This is the guestbook from my old website (www.shevlin.org.uk). As this is the first day of my new website, no one has commented on anything yet, so I thought it would be reassuring to have this here. If you'd like to comment on the site generally (or if you want to comment on the comments in this old guestbook), this is probably a good place to do it.

I like that bit from the Twilight zone in your London cafe sketch, it made me think of the part in Gabriel Garcia Marquez's 100 Years of Solitude where the villagers, suffering from sleeping sickness, start forgetting the meaning of words. One of them starts labelling things with their names but realises that eventually they would forget what things were for too. "Thus they went on living in a reality that was slipping away, momentarily captured by words, but which would escape irremediably when they forgot the values of the written letters."

I wish I had more time to spend looking at the site. I enjoyed the writing I had time to read and I hope you get more published.

Enjoyed 'Yoga', made me giggle inwardly and didn't expect it would. Love personal observations like this, very Alan Bennett. Could relate to this, I've done yoga, i've done pilates - even before most people could pronounce the bloody word. I'm a woman and I've felt uncoordinated and useless in these classes, and I find the whole inner clam and serenity thing with the teacher just plain annoying.

It is such a pleasure to see such a clear and well thought out website. It works as a really good example of your work.

Dear Chris Did you know Provenion really exists? www.provenion.com You're right it doesn't mean penis in any language. The latin word "provenire" means to create something. I hope we get a free sample when the book is finished. Kind Regards, Wolfram Hellmich General Manager provenion gmbh Spannleitenberg 1 85614 Kirchseeon +49 (0)8091 550520 www.provenion.com

Long ago the land was ruled with a wisdom Too fine, too deep, to be fully understood And, since it was beyond men's full understanding, Only some of it has come down to us, as in these sayings: 'Alert as a winter-farer on an icy stream,' 'Wary as a man in amubsh,' 'Considerate as a welcome guest,' 'Selfless as melting ice,' 'Green as an uncut tree,' 'Open as a valley,' And this one also, 'Roiled as a torrent.' Why roiled as a torrent? Because when a man is in turmoil how shall he find peace Save by staying patient till the stream clears? How can a man's life keep its course If he will not let it flow? Those who flow as life flows know They need no other force: They feel no wear, they feel no tear, They need no mending, no repair.

Comments are as fah-follows: 1) I only read one chapter* 2)it made me laugh several times... 3)I particularly liked the characters you created 4)Possibility number 4 is by far the best** *point 2 is due to the fact that I don't have enough time to read more now but will return soon **my degree in editorial illustration surely adds weight to point 3 and I would request you count my opinion twice to reflect this. with thanks Sam

This sample chapter has made me laugh several times. I've especially enjoyed the bit about the pass - there is someone exactly like Karl somewhere in the Wimbledon area, and the bits in which Lydia Parker appears. She's hideous -she's great, and the way she treats Tony is, indeed, totally enickseptible.
